Genetic resistance

Family-based genetic selection

Challenge trials for evaluation of disease resistance in family-based/sibling testing breeding programmes. The trials are designed to identify phenotypic differences between families.

Marker-assisted and genomic selection

Challenge trials to identify genetic markers such as SNPs (small nucleotide polymorfisms) and QTL (quantitative trait loci) linked with higher disease resistance within families. Genome-wide genetic marker data may be used to predict breeding values for disease resistance.
